FAQs:

How do I know which size to get?

  • In general:
    • Smaller size (Size 1) for younger people & lighter flows
    • Heavier flow, larger size (Size 2)
  • Some other factors:
    • Lifestyle—Fitness goddess with strong vaginal muscles? Consider Size 1.
    • Bladder—Sensitive bladder? Try Size 1.
    • Cervix—Low-sitting cervix? We recommend Size 1.
    • Pregnancy—Either size works, Moms! Just take into account your post-birth cervix position and new flow volume.

How many tampons worth of fluid does it hold?

  • 4-6x more than a single tampon or pad

How often do I change it?

  • Every 12 hours or whenever you see spotting for a heavier flow. It can be worn overnight!

Can I swim or have an intense workout in one?

  • Yes, it’s great for both!

What is it made of, and is it safe to be inside my body?

  • This menstrual cup is made of medical grade silicone—it’s FDA approved, hypoallergenic, toxin-free, durable, and isn’t harmful to human tissue!

Do I only need to buy one?

  • Yes! You only need one cup at a time. (You could also keep a backup in your tote!)

How do I clean it between uses?

  • For day to day cleaning, wash with water and natural soap.
  • It’s recommended to boil your cup before and after your cycle to sterilize.

Is there a risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, in comparison to a tampon?

  • No. You may be familiar with the risk of TSS associated with tampons, which is due to their materials and the environment for bacteria that they can foster. These conditions are not created with cups.

How long does it last, and what do I do with an old cup?

  • The FDA recommended guidelines suggest replacing your menstrual cup every two to three years.
  • Once burned, the ash of silicone can be composted or put them in a TerraCycle bin.

Lunette’s mission is to have honest and inspiring conversations about menstruation to motivate period positivity- and change the world one cup at a time.
